Parent and Child Equipment Configuration

Parent-Child links are used to indicate one equipment's reliance on another for operation.

Parent-Child links are used to indicate one equipments reliance on another for operation. In the relationship, the Parent equipment is required for part of the operation of the child equipment. Typically scenarios are:

  • Parent providing a conditioned fluid such as air or water so that the child can do temperature control e.g. Chiller with AHU

  • Parent will be responsible for the flow of a required fluid for operation e.g. Condenser Water Pump with Chiller

  • Parent will provide both flow of a required fluid and the conditioning of this fluid for operation e.g. AHU with VAV

Mapping the relationship is required for the CIM rules engine to operate multi-system templates. They are set on the equipment table in BACER or Virtual collectors.

AHU parents will depend on site configuration. Below is an example of some Parent / Child relationships:
