PEAK enables meter hierarchy by combining NMI meters, physical meters, or virtual meters, allowing for multiple hierarchy levels. Once NMI meters/physical meters are created as instructed here, virtual meters can be easily added as follows.

Virtual Meter Configuration

Virtual meters are calculated by the PEAK platform. They can be created as parent or child meters by grouping NMI meters, physical meters, or other virtual meters. Virtual meters can be configured with one of the following three settings:

It is important to note that once a virtual stream is created, changing the physical meter from one parent meter to another is not allowed by the platform.

Selected Children Summed

  • Calculates the total consumption of chosen sub-meters by summing their values.

  • A virtual meter can be created independently, with or without a parent meter.

All Sibling Subtracted

  • This feature calculates the final virtual meter consumption by subtracting the parent meter consumption from all sibling physical meter consumption.

  • Ensure that a parent meter is assigned

  • Creating stream is not required as the system automatically assigns stream id “1” to the virtual meter

Selected Sibling Subtracted

  • This feature subtracts the parent meter consumption from the selected sibling physical meter consumption to calculate the final virtual meter usage.

  • Ensure that a parent meter is assigned

  • Creating stream is not required as the system automatically assigns stream id “1” to the virtual meter

Creating Virtual Meter on PEAK

To create a virtual meter, go to "Manage Sites" under the "Meter" tab for your selected site. The example below illustrates the process of creating a virtual meter as a child of the parent NMI meter.

  • Select Electrical/Gas/Water (Default Electricity)

  • Click Create (Meter Hierarchy). This will open on the right side of the screen

  • Select Meter Provider: Use “PEAK Meter” as a provider

  • Meter Number: This is a text field. Meter name is unique. Follow the syntax “VM_[MeterName]_[SiteName]” for example VM_Base_Starcourt

  • Utility Type: Select a utility type (Electricity/Gas/Water)

  • Type: Select a type of meter as “Virtual” to source data

  • Data Interval: Not required for virtual meters

  • Parent Stream: Select Parent Meter for this meter. This is to create a meter hierarchy and virtual meter.

  • PEAK Demand Max Target: Ignore this field for now.

  • Country: Select the country where our BACER/BMS is located. Once this is selected, corresponding timezone options will show up on step 11.

  • Timezone: Choose the timezone in which we are polling the data. (Ignore the Australia/Brisbane warning).

  • Click Create. This will automatically create a meter stream.

  • Once the meter stream is created, click "Create"

Assigning Meter to Virtual Meter

After creating a meter hierarchy and setting up virtual meters, edit the virtual meter to assign child or sibling meters for calculation. Once all relevant meters are selected under "Virtual Meter Calculation Meters," click "Update" to initiate the calculation.
